THE CHALLENGES
Providing effective window controls across different areas of Sacred Heart College’s Science Centre required a combination of centralised automation (clerestory windows) and independent operation (classroom windows).
The high-level clerestory windows were positioned across four different elevations of the building. These electric window actuators needed to connect to a central controller, allowing the clerestory windows to connect to the rain and wind sensors.
The classroom windows had different operational requirements and were installed to be controlled independently using local wall switches. Careful planning, wiring coordination, and problem solving were required to bring the different window control requirements together and ensure the system operated as intended.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
OWT supplied and installed Liwin L35 slim electric chain drives to operate high-level clerestory and classroom windows at Sacred Heart College.
The clerestory window automation system incorporated a central controller (AF850) with rain and wind sensors, allowing windows across four elevations to automatically respond to changing weather conditions – meeting the passive ventilation spec for this project. Classrooms were fitted with independent wall switch controls for straightforward local operation.
The slim profile of the Liwin L35 provided a discreet window automation solution that integrated cleanly with the window joinery, while providing practical control of otherwise difficult-to-reach windows.
