TE URU TAUMATUA TE WHAREHOU O TUHOE

This is a stunningly unique building, which was designed and built in accordance with the Living Building Challenge (LBC). This is a sustainability certification with a stringent set of criteria that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible today – much more stringent than the usual green certification.

High-level windows required controls to enable natural ventilation, and OWT worked closely with the architects, Jasmax, to ensure compliance with the LBC criteria for the window gearing.

We used electric linear actuator operated shaft & lever window controls, the components, and manufacturers of which, all met the strict criteria. This enables the windows to be opened & closed by simply pushing a switch, so the fresh air control is simple & effective.

Te Kura Whare, the crowd favourite at the New Zealand Property Council Awards 2014, received the Best in Category for the Special Purpose Property Award and the Green Building Property Award.
